ok so I found this article and I would like for you all to read it, its short, and think on it. I will abstain from posting my opinion here for now and I would like to know the opinions of others in my class, and others who may be reading this blog.

  1. Yikes! That's terrible... you know how the saying goes, "The road to hell is paved with good intentions."
I am glad they will attempt to fix the blunder but it is unfortunate that the 80 year old lady didn't wait. I want to know how she feels about it now.
Also this is probably not the most appropriate but when I saw the 'restored' painting it made me think of the 'oh crap' meme. Kinda looks like it: http://i2.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/000/157/278/1310616789364.jpg

  3. I agree with Susie, "the road to hell is paved with good intentions". It is ironic though with that statement that it is a religous painting.

I often wonder how people rationalize / justify their actions. A follow up article would be nice.

  4. "a crayon sketch of a very hairy monkey in an ill-fitting tunic." OUCH! I wish I could see it better! This also brings up the question of restoration itself. Does restoring a work, other than just cleaning it, change that work? If the face peeled of the Mona Lisa, and an excellent artist repainted it to look just like the original, is it still da Vinci's work?
